Πρόκειται για το πιο σπάνιο δίσκο του Γιαπωνέζου θρύλου Kan Mikami. Κυκλοφόρησε σε 100 μόλις αντίτυπα και περιέχει μοναδικά κομμάτια από ζωντανές ηχογραφήσεις (σε κασέτα τότε) στο ιστορικό underground club Shinuya. Ένα club που φιλοξενούσε μεγάλα ονόματα της Ιαπωνικής free jazz σκηνής όπως ο Motoharu Yoshizawa και ο Kaoru Abe (ίσως παρουσιάσουμε κάποια albums τους στο μέλλον). Εκπληκτική φωνή και λιτή μουσική συνοδεία. Αν έχετε υπομονή να ακούσετε κάτι τελείως διαφορετικό δεν θα το μετανιώσετε.

This album is the rarest item in Mikami's discography, a DLP released in an edition of 100. These are the very earliest recordings by surrealist folk legend Mikami, captured on tape in 1970 at the legendary Shibuya underground club. The club used to host regular sessions by free-jazz heroes like Motoharu Yoshizawa and Kaoru Abe (we may present some of their work on the future). Amazing voice followed by minimal musical accompaniment. Suggested to everyone, patient enough to discover something completely new.

Το Colour Green είναι το μοναδικό album της Γερμανίδας Sibylle Baier, ηχογραφημένο στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 70 στο σπίτι της. Η ηθοποιός, συγγραφέας, τραγουδίστρια, μητέρα Sibylle Baier διάλεξε την οικογένεια από τη φήμη. Τυχαία (και ευτυχώς για εμάς) η κασέτα αυτών των ηχογραφήσεων έπεσε στα χέρια του J.Mascis των Dinosaur Jr. ο οποίος και βοήθησε να κυκλοφορήσει. Ο θηλυκός Leonard Cohen; Ίσως... Υπέροχη φωνή, απλές αλλά γεμάτες συναίσθημα μελωδίες και ένα album βουτηγμένο στην μελαγχολία. Ένα album που παρόλο που έχει ηχογραφηθεί σχεδόν 40 χρόνια πριν, μοιάζει με μία σημερινή folk κυκλοφορία.

Colour Green, the one and only release from German Sibylle Baier, has been around since the early '70s. Recorded in her home between 1970-1973, the actress, writer, mother, and singer/songwriter chose family over fame, and it wasn't until the tapes landed in the hands of Dinosaur Jr.'s J. Mascis that they began their ascent into the world. Have we found the female Leonard Cohen? Maybe... Simply fantastic voice, simplistic but delicate melodies and a plain melancholy album. An album that turned out to sound amazingly current, despite it was recorded almost 40 years ago.

Ιούλιος 1975: Ο Lou Reed, ενώ απολαμβάνει το peak της καλλιτεχνικής του πορείας, αποφασίζει να κυκλοφορήσει το διπλό LP “Metal Machine Music”. Ακατάσχετος θόρυβος, ατέρμονο feedback, ξεκούρδιστες κιθάρες που παίζουν μόνες τους (;), απουσία μουσικών δομών. Κακόγουστο αστείο; Προσπάθεια του Reed να σπάσει το συμβόλαιο με την RCA; Καλλιτεχνικός θρίαμβος; Κοινό και κριτικοί αγανακτούν, ο καλλιτέχνης ισχυρίζεται πως όλα έγιναν με πρόθεση (χμμ, συν κάποια χρήση ουσιών) και πως ο ίδιος εφηύρε το heavy metal, επηρεασμένος από Beethoven, Xenaki και την free-jazz του Coleman! Το album θεωρείται σήμερα σημείο αναφοράς για το no wave, τη noise, τον experimental ήχο γενικότερα, ενώ φαν δηλώνουν οι Sonic Youth, ΝΙΝ, Merzbow, TV On The Radio. O μεγάλος Lester Bangs είπε πως αυτός ο δίσκος ήταν ό,τι πιο σπουδαίο είχε ηχογραφηθεί ποτέ από ανθρώπινο εγκέφαλο…

July, 1975, Lou Reed responded to his glam rock success with a commercial failure, a double album of electronically generated audio feedback, Metal Machine Music. A rare proto-noise “musical” experience consisting of guitars playing by themselves, conducted by Reed’s distorted/sonic feedback illusions. What was all about then? Critics interpreted it as a gesture of contempt, an attempt to break his contract with RCA or to alienate his less sophisticated fans. But Reed claimed that the album was a genuine artistic effort, dubbing himself at that time “inventor” of heavy metal music! In fact, Reed was following the works of Beethoven, Xenakis and Ernest Coleman’s free-jazz. Today the record is seen as an early form of ambient music and a defining pillar of the no-wave, noise and industrial music movements, having a huge impact on the works of Sonic Youth, NIN, Merzbow, TV On The Radio. Lester Bangs called it genius and that above all, this was the greatest album ever made…

Το πιο πιθανό είναι ότι το όνομα Múm δεν σας λέει τίποτα. Το σίγουρο είναι ότι μετά από αυτό το album θα σας λέει πολλά. Έρχονται από την Ισλανδία και είναι αποφασισμένοι να σας συναρπάσουν. Πειραματικοί ήχοι, πάνω σε ατμοσφαιρικές μελωδίες, μελαγχολικές νότες και υπέροχα φωνητικά στα Ισλανδικά. Αν ακόμα δεν έχετε πειστεί ένα άκουσμα του Weeping Rock, Rock θα σας πείσει. Πρόκειται για το highlight του album κατά την ταπεινή μου πάντα γνώμη. Αν σας αρέσουν οι Sigur Rós τρέξτε...

Probably you haven't heard of Múm. I can assure you, that after listening to this album you will never forget them. They come from Iceland and they are determined to fascinate you. Experimental sounds built on atmospheric/ambient melodies, melancholic atmosphere and breathtaking vocals. The lyrics are of course in Icelandic. If you still haven't been persuaded, listen to the second song of this album "Weeping Rock, Rock". The highlight of the album, a song of unbelievable beauty. Every fun of Sigur Rós should get acquainted with Múm.

Αν και δεν ακούω πολύ punk όπως θα διαπιστώσετε, το πρώτο δισκάκι που βάζω στο blog μου είναι punk. Παράδοξο; Καθόλου. Πρόκειται για ένα αριστούργημα. Είναι το πρώτο demo των Τ.S.O.L. ή True Sounds of Liberty. Το EP αρχίζει με το Man & Machine ένα κλασικό γρήγορο hardcore κομμάτι, αλλά τα υπόλοιπα τρία είναι το ιδιαίτερο σημείο του δίσκου. Οι T.S.O.L. εξερευνούν την πιο σκοτεινή τους πλευρά δίνοντας στον ήχο τους μία gothic πινελιά. Αμερικάνικο punk/goth punk στα καλύτερά του.

Although punk isn't one of my favorite genres, the first EP that I present on this blog is punk. You may think that this is out of sense. The truth is that this album is a masterpiece. It's the first T.S.O.L.'s (or True Sounds of Liberty) EP . The first song, Man & Machine is a usual fast-paced hardcore tune, but the rest three songs make this EP unique. TSOL explore the darker, more goth side of their sound. American punk/goth punk at it's best...
