Μετά το Metal Machine Music του Lou Reed που παρουσίασε πριν λίγο καιρό ο myrkursoli, μου ήρθε στο μυαλό το συγκεκριμένο album. Τι κοινό έχουν; Πολλά και τίποτα. Και τα δύο έχουν αμφισβητηθεί όσο τίποτα άλλο, σχεδόν κανένας δεν τα θεωρεί μουσική, δεν έχουν τη δομή συνηθισμένων δίσκων (4 δεκαπεντάλεπτα tracks το ΜΜΜ δύο μόλις το Litanies of Satan), τα μουσικά όργανα είναι ανύπαρκτα, στίχοι και φωνητικά με τη γνωστή σημασία του όρου δεν υπάρχουν... Τότε τι περιέχει το album θα αναρωτηθείτε. Ουρλιαχτά, κραυγές, τρομακτικούς ήχους, vocals σε μια αδιευκρίνιστη γλώσσα που θυμίζουν απόκοσμες σκηνές και εξορκισμούς. Αριστούργημα ή αστειότητα; Προϊόν μεγαλοφυΐας ή παράνοιας; Αιρετικό ή κραυγή εναντίον κάθε θρησκείας; Πραγματικά δεν ξέρω... Το σίγουρο είναι πως οι περισσότεροι δεν πρόκειται να αντέξουν πάνω από πέντε λεπτά. Όσοι του δώσουν μία ευκαιρία, ίσως το αγαπήσουν. Το σίγουρο είναι ότι κανένας δεν πρόκειται να ξεχάσει κάτι τόσο μοναδικό. Έναν δίσκο στον οποίο η Diamanda Galás ενσαρκώνει τον πόνο, την οργή και το φόβο κάνοντας και τα σκληρότερα Black Metal groups να φαίνονται pop.

After myrkursoli published Metal Machine Music some days ago, instantly this album came to my mind. What they have in common? Both of them have been criticized more than any other album, the majority believes that their songs is not music, they are not structured like usual albums (4 15 minutes long tracks at MMM and only 2 tracks at Litanies of Satan), there are no musical instruments, vocals and lyrics are unknown words... Then what is all this about you may wander. Screams, cries, terrifying sounds, creepy atmosphere, vocals in an inexplicable language that bring to mind spooky ceremonies and exorcisms. Masterpiece or just a drollery? The piece of art of a genius or of an insane? Heretical or catapult against any religion? Sincerely I have no idea...What I know for sure is that the majority won't afford it for more than five minutes. They who will give it a spin may love it. But none will deny that she created something unique. It is an album where Diamanda Galás incarnates pain, anger and fear, making every black metal act sound popish.
